Melissa Hocking, our second guest on TVTY Cast, has a story so insane that you may think I am making up. At the age of six she had cancer in her uterus, practically unheard of for her age. She joined the military and became a weapons specialist until she was diagnosed with brain cancer. She fought through all of this and continued pushing on with her life.
She would go on to earn an engineering degree and later give birth to five children. On top of that, she is a profound healer that is friends with the Dalai Lama and she changes peoples lives daily.
These are only a few of the things that Melissa has achieved. She is truly a remarkable human with a strong message for us to take away. Many may consider events like cancer the end of their life or be hampered by it, but Melissa is a shining example of striving forward despite setbacks.
Now I know what you’re thinking, this thought of pushing through obstacles has become a bit of a hot topic lately. With books like The Obstacle is the Way by Ryan Holiday or Grit by Angela Duckworth. I couldn’t think of a better real life application of these philosophies than Melissa. She has fought through so much that some could not make it through, but she came out of it happy, accomplished, and continues to follow her passions.
Follow Melissa’s lead and the next time you are confronted with something devastating, remember Melissa’s fighting spirit and let it guide you to healing. Use her as a role model to push through what your facing, to fight, and survive.
Listen, I can’t do her story justice here. Check out her episode of the TVTY Cast below and be amazed and inspired by what she has accomplished and survived.
